We have successfully mastered getting the girls to sleep without swaddles! They finally completely outgrew them last month so Sarah spent a weekend working on training them to sleep unswaddled. We first had them sleep in "sleeping bags" that still controlled their legs but allowed them to have their arms free. Finally we just completely switched to jammies and blankets. It really only took one weekend and a good week with Aunt Sarah's help to get them on board.
Now that we're not getting up to swaddle them or insert pacifiers multiple times a night, we're all much happier. The girls sleep 7-11, eat, then sleep until 6-7am. They nap better and most of the time even put themselves to sleep when laid down. No more walking, rocking and singing over and over until they drift to sleep. It's heavenly.

Our favorite time is early in the morning when they are both awake laying in their cribs cooing and laughing at the ceiling fan and each other. They're so funny! We wait as long as possible before we go in to get them just to listen to them playing. We also like watching where they end up in their cribs by morning. We can only imagine how Olivia can start out with her head on one side of the crib and wake up at the complete other end turned all the way around- the entire feat accomplished completely on her back! Lucy, on the other hand, loves the little doll we put on the other side of her crib so much, that as soon as she wakes up she somehow scoots all the way over to play with it. We really need to videotape this stuff!
Wow, you're going to have to teach me this. I didn't know there were steps to sleeping and what to sleep in.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! Sleeping is such a key thing....so many things become so much easier when they're sleeping good. They're getting so big and such little dolls!! You'll probably always get attention with cute girls like that. :)
