Road Trippin'

This past weekend was our big road trip to Arizona . My cousin Stephanie graduated from college recently and it was time to celebrate. We tried to plan the trip around keeping the girls to their schedule as closely as possible (yes, we are sticklers for our schedule- I will explain later). We left Thursday evening after the girls’ naps, some playtime, an early dinner, baths and jammies. I think they were a bit thrown off when we got in the car but they settled in to playing and drinking their milk for the first couple hours of the trip. They finally fell asleep right at their usual 8pm bedtime. Unfortunately, our girls have never been heavy sleepers. Not since they were infants and in their removable carseats have we been able to get them out of the car and into the house all the while still sleeping. They wake up almost as soon as the car turns off. They got pretty revved up once we got into my aunt and uncle’s house where we were staying and didn’t really settle back into sleeping until 1am. It was a long first night for us all.

That was really the only settling in the girls needed though. We spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with my family, letting the girls run around their spacious house and enjoy their dog Lucky (she even warmed up to Kevin!).

Lucky, swimming and the dog-dog movie were the highlights of the trip for the girls. How crazy is it that my aunt and uncle had the same dog-dog video from when their girls were little (and they kept it this whole time)? My girls were in heaven once it came on!

The party was fun and amazingly the girls slept through the whole thing. They had dinner, got their baths and got to play for awhile before passing out at their usual time. Why they can’t sleep from the car to the house but they can sleep through loud music, people talking, laughing and all kinds of craziness will forever baffle us. The weekend was too short and Sunday it was back home. We left at lunchtime and the girls were so good for the 5 hour trip home. We stopped and had some lunch and then the girls played in the car, took their naps and then played some more until we were home. We got so lucky on that one!

Of course we loved being able to spend some fun time with family and just get away for a few days. Thank you so much Kaylors for your hospitality! Hands down, best party throwers ever (I mean come on, who else plays flip cup with their kids’ friends with Monster Mash playing in the background?).
