After taking in the excitement of the World Cup Sunday morning, we decided to hop in the car and spend the afternoon/evening at Newport with some extended family. It was a last minute decision so we weren't totally prepared but everyone was so welcoming and provided towels, food and plenty of fun.
As for the sand, neither of the girls were big fans. Lucy warmed up to it quicker than Olivia who wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. Lucy loved watching her second cousins digging and playing so she settled down on the towel quicker than Olivia. No matter how many times we wiped off Olivia's hands and feet she could not get rid of the sand feeling. She was mad and fussy pretty much the whole time we were out on the beach.

We decided to head down to the water when the other kids were heading in. It didn't take much convincing to get Lucy to walk down to the water in the sand. She and Daddy headed down there while I stayed back trying to pry Olivia off the towel and after her sister. Finally we traded and I headed into the tide with Lucy while Daddy tended to Olivia. Lucy just may be a fish. She loved everything about the water. She was slpashing, kicking, laughing and so excited about the water with every wave that came and got her little feet. We ended up just taking off her pants altogether and letting her play. If we weren't holding her hands she would try to run out into the water. She's a brave little lady! Olivia, not so much. She seemed to get a bit excited when she first reached the water but once it actually touched her, her feet were covered in sand and she realized the water was cold, she went right back to screaming. Poor baby, I think it was all too much for her. No matter how much fun she saw sister having she just couldn't get into it. She wasn't even happy to be held since there was still sand on her feet and hands. She was actually quite offended by the whole experience.

Poor Olivia!
We know Olivia will love it just as much as Lucy once she gives it a chance. We're already trying to figure out when we're going to go spend the day at the beach again.
Lucy is a lot like her grandpa - making those silly faces and being a fish!!! He would be so proud!!! Olivia will come around eventually. If not this summer, the next.
