Mother Goose

If you have ever given the girls a book of nursery rhymes, songs or poems raise your hand? Now, wipe that proud smile off your face, bring your hand down and give it a good slap. If I wake up one more time singing "If You're Happy and You Know It" there will be a lot more then clapping, stomping and hooraying going on.

Ok, all kidding aside, we are going slightly nuts with the constant rhyming and singing. The girls LOVE all of their nursery rhyme books. In fact Lucy won't read any other books except her Mother Goose books. She looks through the entire shelf and the pile on the floor until she finds one of her favorite 5 books. On the rare occasions we have needed a break and hid the books, she has gone on frantic searches until we give in (which usually isn't long).

Don't get me wrong, we love that the girls are such big fans of books. When I think about how they spend most of their days now, they don't actually play with any one toy or do one activity for any great length of time. But I can say of all their toys their books are the most "played" with. They love to sit on the floor and flip the pages themselves and point out and name familiar objects like dogs, balls and Elmo. They love when we sing the nursery rhymes and they dance, do hand motions (itsy-bitsy spider, do your ears hang low, wheels on the bus, if you're happy and you know it) and beg for more. Yes, our singing skills are that amazing, at least the girls think so. Children are amazing for your self-confidence (at least until they can talk back).

So that's pretty much our new (favorite) activity. If you catch me singing or humming at my desk, in the car or around the house, you can usually count on it being one of the girls' favorites.
