The girls are really learning what words mean now. The first big discovery was their ability to tell us when they have poop in their diapers. Lucy is especially diligent about walking up pointing at her bottom and saying poop. I think she fails to realize that we always know when she has pooped not only from the odor that permeates the entire house within seconds, but even if she tries to hide while completing her business, the grunting and straining is also hard to ignore. We're just glad we've gotten to the point where they realize what is happening and can tell us. This is step one towards potty training. We're not rushing that though.
They also know the word hot. We have this heater that warms our giant living/dining room and the girls know not to touch it because it's hot (it's not really). They also know not to touch the oven because that's hot. I guess they've seen me use the potholders enough on things in the oven to know these also associate with hot. The other day after rummaging through my kitchen towel drawer, the girls took out a potholder, put it on and went over to the fireplace and touched it with gloved hand and said "hot" and then proceeded to blow on it to cool it down (like we do their food). It cracked me up!
The girls make all kinds of associations like this these days. They continually amaze us!
