First Trip to Disney

We made our first trip to Disneyland last weekend! It was a spur of the moment, aligning of the stars, and some awesome friends Catherine & Mike, that made the trip possible. We met my sister out there on Sunday and got there right at lunchtime. After a quick lunch at the front of the park we headed back towards Small World, which I knew the girls would enjoy.

We decided on Dumbo as our first ride. Who doesn’t love Dumbo, right? Wrong. Olivia cried and screamed through the entire ride as she sat in Kevin’s lap. Lucy sat with me and was scared at first but once we got going she had fun. After that traumatizing event, we headed over to the storybook ride next door. We got right onto a boat manned by a friend of ours from high school. So random that we ran into her! She did an awesome job giving us the tour of storybook land and the girls loved their boat ride. So, one good ride experience one bad one. Not too bad.

Small World was a total hit! We had never been during the holiday season when they completely transform it but the girls were mesmerized. They clapped, danced and Lucy even started singing along (in her own way) to the Christmas songs. It was so cute to see them point things out and just watch everything around them. They were in total awe of the whole ride. Plus we finally got some good pictures of the 4 of us!

We were on such a high from two good rides in a row I thought it would be a great idea to head over to the carousel. That didn’t go as well. Mary and I took the girls who settled right onto their horses but as soon as they started moving the girls were done. We decided we should have sat with them on the horses instead of sitting them by themselves and just standing next to them. We held them and tried to comfort them as both Olivia & Lucy screamed for the entire ride. Poor ducks! They very much enjoyed when that was over and we sat down for a milk and snack break.

We headed over to Toontown next and let them run free on the little playground and house. They loved climbing and sliding and finally getting some of their energy out. We could tell they were getting tired but they were such troopers. After all that playing we hopped on the train they had been admiring and pointing at all day for a ride around the park. The last big ride we went on was the Jungle Cruise for some animal watching. It was just as corny as I remember it to be.

We hopped over to California Adventure and walked around a bit since we’d never been before and then decided to get dinner instead of doing any rides. The girls were getting tired and it was getting dark and cold by this point so we decided to head out. Right when we got to the front of the park the parade started. I wanted to let the girls watch for a minute and we ended up staying for the whole thing. They loved it! I don’t know why I didn’t think of parades before. Kevin held Olivia up so she could see and she was dancing and wiggling all over the place to the music. Lucy got a glimpse of her dancing and soon joined in. It was adorable. They were so into the music, characters, dancing and floats. After we soaked in all the Bug’s Life, Toy Story and Car characters they had to offer we made a final stop on Main Street in Disneyland to once again admire the Christmas decorations. B.E.A.utiful! They do an amazing job. We watched some of the Disney parade and then packed up the girls and headed home.

We had an amazing time with the girls and my sister and we will definitely be back to Disneyland (though probably not for awhile). It’s a LOT of work with kids. Keeping track of where the workers moved our stroller alone was a chore, let alone diaper changes, food, naps etc. There will be no Matterhorn, Tower of Terror or other “adult” rides for us for awhile. We’re ok with that though since it’s been a long time since we’ve been on Dumbo and the train.

Special thanks to Mary for accompanying us on such a fun day and to Mike & Catherine for making it all possible.
