We’re back!!
We spent all of last week snow-bound on a family vacation. It was a lot of fun and definitely a time to recoup after the craziness of the holidays. After some initial trouble physically locating and getting our vehicles through the snow and ice to the actual cabin, we spent the first day unpacking and settling in. It didn’t take long before we jumped straight into dinner, snacks and games.
The girls settled in fairly quickly. I think the strange-ness of sleeping in a new place was a bit rough on Lucy, as she spent part of the first night sleeping with us (a first!) We definitely weren’t used to having a child sleep with us as she kept us both up as she tossed and turned, kicked and climbed. Eventually she settled in sleeping across the tops of our pillows. Apparently she didn’t think the cabin mattress was that comfortable either. After that, naps and bedtimes went fairly smoothly since the girls were pretty worn out by the time we put them down each day.
The girls spent their time harassing the dog, entertaining Lizzy (during the weekend), building towers with their blocks and chasing each other in and out of their pop up tent/tunnel. For the most part, they just wanted to do their own thing. There was still plenty of dancing, books, coloring and movie watching to entertain them. They never really got cabin fever either. We headed outside as much as possible with them too. They were pretty capable in the snow and enjoyed having snowballs put on their mittens so they could eat them or throw them. They both liked sled rides with Dada but Olivia was much braver about it than Lucy surprisingly. Olivia would go the entire hill with a giant smile on her face. Lucy, on the other hand, was a little more scared looking, though they both always asked to go again. Overall the girls did very well and lasted much longer out in the snow than we imagined. They had a great time on their first week trip away from home.
The rest of us spent our time building an awesome snowman, sledding/perfecting-the-sledding-hill-so-I-wouldn’t-crash-into-the-same-tree-everytime, puzzle-ing, playing card & board games and watching movies. It was a great week with Kevin’s family and we all had a great time enjoying the SoCal snow.
I literally have hundreds of pictures so here are just a few of our favorites. The girls traded jackets back and forth so it's not necessarily the same one in the jackets in each picture.
