We definitely have 2 little fish! We signed up for the same 2 week parent and me swim classes we took the girls to last summer. It didn't take more than the first class before the girls turned into 2 little fish. They LOVE swimming and are so excited to go each night. As soon as they see the pool they nearly go into hysterics and can't wait to get in. Here's how the past 2 days have gone. I'm going to try to get pictures at one of these lessons too.
Day 1: Lucy was more interested in watching all the other classes of bigger kids (typical Lucy). Lucy went along with the flow of the class but would not blow bubbles under the water and had to really be prompted to do motorboat kicks. Olivia, on the other hand, could have cared less about the class or other kids. She wanted to swim! She kicked her legs, blew bubbles in the water and nearly jumped out of our arms whenever she got the chance. When the group would get together to practice floating or sing songs, Olivia would say "No, I want to swim!" and try to flip over and kick away.
Day 2: As soon as we got in the water with the girls they were ready to go. Olivia was a pro with big motorboat kicks and even doing her arms even though we hadn't gone over that yet this summer. It didn't take long before Lucy was just as into it kicking away too. Their favorite thing is just to swim around with a little belly support from us. They also love to jump in off the side of the pool. We also decided at the end of class to walk the girls down to the diving boards and watch the older kids jump in. After watching a few jumpers the girls got excited to climb up and try it too. Sure enough they both "jumped" (with a little push from Kevin), into the water to one of the instructors. They loved it and said they wanted to do it again tomorrow.
We're loving swim lessons this year. Kevin and I were saying last night how much of a difference we see from one year to the next. Last year the girls were almost 18 months when we did the lessons and they went along with the flow and definitely progressed throughout the class. We remember looking around at the other kids in the class who would blow bubbles, splash and kick and really get into it. This year we're those people in the class. We totally understand the half bored smiles from the mom of the 9 month old in the class. It's definitely worth it though, even when they're babies. I don't think they'd be as comfortable this year if we hadn't gone last summer.
Looks like we're going to be doing a lot of swimming this summer!
