Happy belated 4th of July! We crammed a lot in over the weekend and the girls didn't get to bed on time from Thursday-Monday. They just went with everything we had going on and we had a great weekend. We got to see my aunt/uncle and cousins from Arizona for awhile Friday night and have some fun swim time with Nana, Uncle B & Marjorie on Sunday. Kevin and I even worked in a few hours out at a wine party on Saturday night.
We bbq'ed swam and had some fun friend time at the Meins' Monday afternoon. They have an awesome view of the fireworks on Mt. Rubidoux, plus a few other neighboring cities as well. It's pretty much a tradition now. After a fun swim session with plenty of jumping and splashing around, the girls spent nearly the rest of the night riding their tricycles around in circles. They love chasing each other on those things and we love watching them as they "pedal" around with their little Flintstone feet. They are almost tall enough to really be able to use the pedals completely.
After munching on some food and playing a fun American History trivia game, we headed up the hill for the fireworks. The girls were excited and apprehensive as they didn't know what to expect. Lucy kept saying "They're coming. Fireworks are coming. Watch. Here they come." She would then follow that up with "Don't be scared, ok?" I'm not sure who she was trying to convince us or herself. Once they started though, the girls were really into it. Olivia had a few "wow"s and loved pointing them out to me. Unfortunately, just as the fireworks really got going they stopped. Mt. Rubidoux had 3 pretty good fires on it that we could see so the fire dept. shut down the fireworks. We waited as long as we could to see if they would come back on and then resigned ourselves to waiting until next year. The girls weren't too sad and they were asleep almost as soon as we put them in the car. We got home and put them to bed just as the fireworks started up again. Kevin and I were able to go out on a balcony and watch the rest of the show at least.
It was a great but exhausting weekend. Here are a few pictures of the girls enjoying their 4th.
