We had a great day at Newport Beach on Monday. The girls loved the ocean, the sand and the birds. As soon as they got out of the car Olivia yelled "I want to go in the pool!" while she pointed at the ocean. From that moment on she was in heaven and so was Lucy. By the end of the day they were wiped out and so were we.
We got to the beach house right around 12 and gave the girls a quick lunch, changed into suits and lathered up in sunscreen. The girls could hardly wait to get to the beach. We let them play in the sand for a bit while the sunscreen soaked in. Here are the awesome sand molds we found of American landmarks. We may have to go back for the European landmark set as well, they're that cool.

The girls loved digging around in the sand and helping Daddy build sand castles and sculptures. They mostly directed where he should dump the molds after he'd filled them. They were quite helpful.
After some turns chasing the birds around the sand, we headed down to the water. The temperature was perfect for the girls to be comfortable. They loved running in towards the waves and then as soon as they started coming in, they'd turn around and run away again. We jumped, splashed and ran in and out of the waves for quite awhile. Kevin's cousin Jennifer introduced the girls to all the sea shells that were washed up on shore so they dug around in the mud and collected those in a cup for awhile before they decided to just dump them all out and go splash in the water instead. Olivia was the brave one this time. She ran right into the waves and always wanted to go deeper and deeper without any fear. Lucy was a bit more hesitant and as soon as she saw the waves coming towards her she would turn and run. They loved every minute in the water and we were only able to break them away for potty breaks.
We had a great family day trying a bunch of new things together. We're so glad the girls liked the beach this year and it was so much fun to watch them get excited over the waves, the birds and even the sand. The girls had a great time playing with some of their cousins too. We even tested them to see if they knew everyone's names by asking them to go hug/kiss each person by name at the end of the night. They got everyone right!
We will be making plenty of trips back to the beach this year and for years to come since we have such beach and water lovers.
