Tiny Tot Ballet

Tonight was night 1 of our 4 week Tiny Tot Ballet adventure. The girls were very excited and even asked me first thing this morning if they were going to ballet class. The class is at the old school where my sister and I also took lessons from some of the same teachers. I must say it hasn't changed much.

The class is for 2-3 year olds and there were a lot of kids waiting around in their pink tights and white leotards when we arrived. It's just a half hour class where they mostly just let the kids move around and mimic their movements. Since the school offers on going classes most of the kids were already familiar with the class and teachers. I wasn't sure how the girls would react when it was time to venture off from us. There were some kids who cried and never joined the class and others who went back and forth between their parents and the class. Luckily, the girls joined in right away without any hesitation.

The class starts off with this little wooden door that the kids all go through to start their class. The girls watched all the other girls go through and then with a little boost from me they went through. They gathered in a circle and sat down where they practiced basic movements like pointing their toes and stretching. They also practiced jumps, hops, and danced with scarves. It was the perfect little class for them to see other kids, get some movement in and be away from us. Surprisingly, they didn't even stick together! They each did their own thing and didn't even really pay attention to each other.

As for their individual reaction? Olivia seemed kind of confused by the whole thing. She went along with what the teacher asked and stood or sat as directed. Other than that, she did the bare minimum. When it was time to sit and practice pointing and flexing your feet, she sat and watched everyone else but didn't make a move of her own. When they danced around with their scarves she stood and gently waved her scarf in front of her without moving an inch. She intensely watched all the other little girls and sometimes furrowed her brow at them as if she was thinking. "what are you doing?" Kevin and I were cracking up watching her expressions. Overall, it was typical Olivia, very observant.

Lucy was all in from the beginning. She would watch the teacher and other kids and mimic exactly what they were doing. She loved being involved and every once in awhile she would look over to make sure we were watching her. When it was time to play with scarves she was adorable. She took her scarf and waved it around while she ran and twirled. She loved waving it in the air and dancing around with the teacher and other kids. She could care less what Olivia was up to as long as she was doing what the teacher and other kids were going she was happy. She absolutely loved going through the little door at the end of class and getting her sticker.

Besides the fact that it was ridiculously hot in the studio, it was a fun class and Kevin and I really enjoyed watching the girls experience something new. I'm sure Olivia will warm up to it over the next 3 weeks. I'll get more pictures next time but for now here they are in their leotards, tights and pigtails waiting to head out to class.
