Going to the Dentist

Look who had their first trip to the dentist?

My Aunt happens to be a dental hygienist and cleans most of the family's teeth. She just won herself 2 new patients! They are already comfortable around her from all the time at Grandma's house so they weren't shy at all when it came time for them to get checked out.

Kevin went first to demonstrate how it all worked. The girls got to see the air gun, squirt gun and little vacuum cleaner in action in his mouth. They waited patiently until his cleaning and polishing were finished. Lucy went first and climbed right up into the chair. My Aunt let her go for rides up and down before settling her in with her bib. They counted her teeth (18 so far, with the last 2 just about to pop through), checked around a bit and then polished them. Lucy was such a good girl opening her mouth really wide and going along with everything that had to be done. She wasn't scared one bit.

Olivia was just as brave! She was actually excited when Lucy's turn was over and couldn't wait to climb up and have her turn in the chair. Olivia was a champ at opening her mouth really wide and letting my aunt poke around in there. She breezed right through the whole thing. She has 19 1/2 teeth with that last one only half way in. Becka polished them all up and away she went. Olivia made sure she got to look in the mirror and check out the finished product before she got down so Mama could get her teeth cleaned.

They were such good girls and we were so proud of them. There was no hesitation, no crying and they didn't seem a bit scared. I think it helps when you're comfortable with the hygienist but with that mask and those crazy glasses on she hardly looks like the Aunt Becka we know and love. We really appreciate her taking time out of her weekend to clean our teeth and make things so interesting for the girls. I think they actually liked it! My Aunt did say their teeth are a bit crowded in their little mouths so there is a good possibility of some orthodontia in our future. My fingers are crossed for some crazy jaw growth spurt that gives them plenty of room for those teeth. We'll see!
