We took a quick trip to San Diego the week before Christmas that's been caught in my "to-do" blog list for awhile now. We were able to squeeze in a lot of sites and friends which made the holidays even more special.
We left the Safari Park and settled in at our hotel before meeting up with Natalia, Kyle, Melissa and Ross for dinner and the San Diego Boat Parade of Lights. It was a fun night where we got to hang out a bit during the crazy holidays. So glad we were all able to go. The girls liked the boats and the lights but even more they liked the Coronado sand. We found a spot right next to the Ferry dock and sat in the grass while the girls made friends with a little girl playing in the sand. The 3 of them spent most of the parade piling up sand into little piles that they called "towers" or "castles". They had so much fun and were so nice to the other little girl. They all took turns pouring handfuls of sand onto the pile and it was very cute to watch them. The boat parade was beautiful with the San Diego harbor skyline in the background. Coronado never disappoints.
After the parade we headed back to our hotel which the girls loved. They kept calling it "our other home" all day and asking when we were going back. They were so exhausted from the day after we snuggled them into their queen bed they went right to sleep. They didn't mind sharing a bed one bit. They slept all night without any problems.
Monday we made a last visit to Sea World for the year. The weather was pretty chilly and drizzly and we wanted to beat traffic home so we didn't stay too long. We were able to go on the Sky Tower, which we hadn't done before, and then saw the Shamu show. We did also see the girls' favorites: penguins and sharks. We headed into the Sesame Street place for the Abby and Elmo rides before heading home. It was a fun day just the 4 of us and nice to have a little mini-vacation before the Christmas madness. I hope we can do something like this again in coming years.
We started at the San Diego Safari Park (formerly the Wild Animal Park). It was the girls' first trip and we loved it. We were able to see lions, elephants, giraffes, monkeys and all sorts of other animals. The girls were pretty into spotting the animals when we were on the tram. Our favorite site of the day was the cheetah run. They run a lure that the cheetah chases at top speed and it was incredible. It accelerates faster than a car and the cheetah is going so fast you can barely see his paws touching the ground. We were lucky enough to see him run twice and get it on video. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Safari Park. The weather was overcast with a few drizzles here and there, but it was perfect weather for the day. The best part was that there was hardly anyone at the park. We could easily get up close to all the viewing areas and didn't have to wait in lines. I think the girls will be more into the park when they are older because there was so much more to spot and see way out in the distance but at their age, it was too hard to point these things out to them. We will definitely be planning a return visit.
