We have decided we have 2 little elephants (if in fact it is true that elephants never forget). We can't say anything around the girls without them holding us to it even if it's something about the next day, 2 days, even a week later. Plus, they remember everything they've done and every place they've gone, even if it was only once.
Example 1: Over the summer, there was a factory recall on my car. The only way we could get it taken care of was for Kevin and the girls to take it over and wait for them to repair it. This was over 6 months ago, and the 1 and only time the girls have ever gone to the dealership. You would think this was a no-big-deal trip that ate up an hour of their morning one random Friday. Apparently there was a lasting impression from the dealership that they remind me of every time we drive by (which is daily). When we drive by on the freeway they tell me about the time they went there to fix my car with Daddy. Sometimes I take side streets home from my parent's and we drive by the side of the dealership and still they point out its significance. It still amazes me that they remember enough detail to recognize the building no matter which side of the building they see. AND they know it from every other car dealership in the area!
Example 2: 6-9 months ago Kevin took the girls with him to a donut store one morning as a treat. Last night we're driving home and out of the blue Olivia says, "There's the donut store! Remember when Daddy took me and sister to get donuts? Num, nummy!" Lucy chimed right in with her version of the events that morning and what kind of donut she got (sprinkles in case you wondered). Where did that come from?!? How do they remember that one time they went to this donut store?
If we say anything like, "Tomorrow we'll go the park" or "Later we'll go for a walk" or "We'll take our babies to grandma's house tomorrow" they will not let us forget. As soon as they wake up, they will remind us what we said would happen at the given time. Our little elephants never forget.
