December 1st, bright and early, Happy the elf returned to us! The doorbell rang and when the girls went to answer the door they found Happy, a note, snow donuts and hot chocolate mix on the front porch. They were soooooo excited and couldn't believe he rang the doorbell. They gave him big hugs and were so excited about everything. It was quite an eventful morning!
Yes, the girls got to touch Happy this year. Only when he arrived though were they allowed to give him a hug. Now they know he is not to be touched. Also, he is not a naughty elf but he does still hide in a new spot when he returns from visiting Santa each night. The girls remember why he is here with us until Christmas and for the most part a little "Happy is watching" comment has reminded the girls to be on their best behavior. Olivia is a little more stubborn about behaving around Happy and doesn't necessarily buy into the Happy concept entirely. She usually just glances and him when we remind her about him and then continues on with whatever was going on. It has cut down on some whining/fighting/crying though, so it's still well worth the effort and he makes the girls so happy. They love saying good morning and good night to him and they even apologize when they have been misbehaving. It's actually really cute to hear them talk to Happy. I'm sure he loves it and rushes right back to Santa to tell him all about the cute, funny little girls he's staying with this season :)
