Road Trippin'

We took our new van on its first road trip over the Labor Day weekend. We packed up and picked up Nana and headed out to Arizona to visit Sarah/Tim and my friend Denise. We left Thursday night since it's a quick 4.5 hour drive and the girls slept most of the way.

Friday we met up with Denise and her baby Jude for lunch and got to catch up and see how much he's changed in just a few short months. He was such a good boy just looking around and watching the girls who were constantly loving on him. He is such a cutie! Even though I didn't get any pictures with us, it was so great to see Denise and Jude, as always. After heading home and some naps we noticed Lucy was warm and not feeling well. Sure enough, she had a really high fever that had come on really quickly. She and I spent the evening cuddled up on the couch with a cold washcloth on her head while Daddy & Uncle Tim headed off to the Diamondbacks game.

Saturday Lucy's fever was gone but she was still under the weather so Olivia & I went over to visit Great Grandma and Aunt Becky who were also in town for the weekend. There was also the first Notre Dame game that we watched together. The girls were pretty content to just stay at Sarah & Tim's and play with the dogs and her Barbie's the whole time. They had a blast running around and torturing the poor dogs. Rudy sure did get his fair share of wearing the Dr. kit stuff.

We also found this really cool bowling alley near their house where we bowled, played arcade games, got some yummy better-than-average bowling alley food and drinks. It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon out of the heat. The girls had a lot of fun getting tickets from the games and then buying completely unnecessary junk with their tickets.

After a yummy Chicago-style pizza dinner Sunday night, we packed back up and headed home. It's so much easier to travel the desert at night, especially with two 4 year olds who constantly ask if we're almost "there". Unfortunately, I think the night traveling plus excitement of the weekend was too much for all of us. Either Kevin's cold from the previous week came back to bite us all, or we caught something different because since Lucy, Olivia and I have also been sick. Thankfully the girls had very minor fevers/congestion/coughs which have cleared up for the most part.

It was a fun little trip and it was great to see Sarah & Tim and their cute house. The girls had a blast and we knew it was probably the only chance we'd have to get away before the baby comes. Thanks for having us Tim, Sarah, Rudy & Rockne (and Harley who graciously kept his place in the laundry room for my sake all weekend).
