We had the girls' parent-teacher conference last week. It was kind of exciting to hear what the teacher saw in the girls when we're not around and how they interact with the other kids. Mrs. Tiffany was very complementary of the girls. She said behavior-wise she has absolutely no complaints and thinks they are angels. She loves how sweet they are to each other and told us about a week when Olivia was having trouble opening her lunch containers without spilling her food. Each time she would spill her sandwich on the ground, Lucy would immediately jump in and say, "it's alright, sister. You can share my sandwich" and everything was solved. She also loved how they can work things out for themselves. On their day to host snacks, Olivia was getting ahead of Lucy in passing out to most of the kids. Lucy complained and asked if she could have a turn giving snacks out and they quickly decided that they would each pass snacks out to 3 kids before it was sister's turn. The teacher couldn't believe there were no meltdowns or fighting over something like that and she didn't even have to intervene before they worked it out. It was so heartwarming to hear!
As for learning, she showed us examples of their progress from day 1 of school and it was amazing to see. Their writing, drawing and cutting have really improved in only half a year. She showed us examples of where they are in their sounds boxes (alphabet) and counting as well as some examples of activities we can work on with them at home. Overall, the teacher was very pleased with where they are and said they are beyond ready for Kindergarten. She showed us a list of Kindergarten skills and after reviewing it the girls are familiar with or have mastered almost everything on the list. They are getting closer and closer to sounding out and spelling words every day. I can't wait until they start reading all on their own!
These girls sure are growing up fast but we couldn't be more proud of them. We know how extraordinary and special they are to us and it's nice to hear that someone unbiased thinks so too.
