We set up our backyard pool again this summer just in time for the icky heat. It's so nice to be able to all go outside after work or on the weekends and just hang out for awhile and cool off. Even Andrew likes the pool!
Since the pool is only a couple of feet deep (and they are always supervised), we let the girls go in our pool without floaties. Last year, even with floaties they were constantly standing up or touching the side or bottom of the pool instead of actually swimming. As soon as they started swimming this year we immediately noticed they can do it! Face under the water, holding their breath, kicking and scooping--- full on swimming! We were amazed. They still use the sides or bottoms when they need to catch their breath but it is so fun to see their confidence grow and how proud they were when they realized what they were capable of doing. If we can up their strength and teach them how to tread water and encourage more floating when they get tired or out of breath, I know we can have them floatie-free in the big pool this summer too.
