So that's a pretty big thing at elementary schools these days. I saw so many posts on social media about what other parents/kids did to celebrate the milestone. The girls' class marked the occasion with their first project and a party. Not having any experience with class projects we put it off a few days too many and got caught trying to get it all done on night 99. Lesson learned: start projects sooner.
Anyway, the task was to gather 100 of any items they liked and display them somehow. Olivia decided she wanted to do snowmen out of marshmallows and Lucy wanted to do Goldfish crackers in a bowl. Lucy was adamant about counting hers out by 10s, which I thought was quite clever. After some experimenting she decided to use 10 small Goldfish glued together to make 1 large goldfish and glued it to the bowl she drew. Olivia then got on the counting by 10s bandwagon and decided she wanted to make 10 snowmen out of 10 marshmallows each. Then she decided she wanted them on the beach (Olaf inspired, clearly). Here are their masterpieces after a very long evening of coloring and gluing.
The little party they had in class was super cute. The teacher had all sorts of little counting activities with various snacks for them to do. They also made crowns and did 100 piece puzzles with their table friends. The girls loved it. The fun part was they were supposed to dress up like they were 100 years old. This was harder than we originally thought so we were not as prepared as we could have been but we made it work. The girls wore some wigs I found, some blousy/flowery tops, and glasses with some strings attached to hang around their necks. Seeing all the little kids dressed up in their class was really cute and some of them went all out. I was really impressed! This also goes on the list of things to start sooner next time.
