Kevin had a co-worker's wedding to attend in San Diego a few weekends ago so we decided to just go down there and stay for the weekend and take a mini vacation. We spent the weekend in La Jolla which was different for us since we're never really down that way when we go to SD.
We checked into our hotel Friday night and then walked across the street to the UTC mall for kids' choice dinner (Red Robin), playtime at the little play area they have and then some delicious (expensive) "luxury" ice cream (it was well worth the price in my opinion). It was a cool evening without being too chilly. We went back to the hotel so I could put Andrew to bed while Kevin and the girls went swimming.
Saturday we headed out into La Jolla and drove through La Jolla cove admiring the coast, houses and checking out the shopping/dining. We headed over to downtown La Jolla to walk around, have lunch and check out the ocean. It was overcast all day and a bit chilly but we made the most of it outside. When we got back to our hotel Kevin had to leave for the wedding so the kids and I went back across the street to UTC and played until Melissa, Ross and Shane came to meet up with us for dinner. The girls picked Corner Bakery for our dinner. We had a bit more swimming before heading back to the room to put Andrew to bed while the girls and I cuddled and watched a movie.
Sunday was Kids Fest at Liberty Station, which we went to a few years ago. We had a lot of fun exploring, and enjoying all the kid-friendly games, activities and entertainment. The girls loved the bounce house, the dress up station, planting seeds and making crowns. Andrew loved the messy station where there was dirt, colored spaghetti noodles, sensory buckets and a giant ball pit. They all loved their super hero capes! The girls even took turns singing on stage. Super fun day and a great way to end the fun weekend away.
When we were sufficiently worn out we packed up and headed home. Everyone fell asleep for the ride home.
