We took June and July off from ballet to give the girls (and us) a break over the summer. A lot of the kids take that time off and we didn't last year so we really needed it this year. We hoped to work in other activities during that time like trying volleyball, but the classes we signed up for never panned out so instead we just enjoyed a leisurely summer.
August we returned to ballet and the girls were excited to go back, see their friends and learn new things. Level move-ups were announced at the end of the month and not knowing if being gone for two months would effect this, we were super excited that the girls got to move up to level 2B! They start their new classes this week.
Last weekend was also Nutcracker auditions. Since I was at home getting ready for our back to school dinner Kevin took the girls. They went to try out for Mother Ginger again but were asked by the Director to also stay and audition for the battle scene, which means the Mouse part in their case. This was a total surprise to us since we figured it would be a few years before we got to that level. Yesterday their letters came in the mail congratulating them on being selected for the cast. Unfortunately they don't announce casting for another week so we wait in suspense. It is possible for them to do both parts though so they are really anxious to find out if they get to be mice and Mother Ginger's children. We will see!! Either way they are excited to perform in another year of Nutcracker.
