One Step Ahead

We're on top of it this year, or at least trying to be. After the time change last year, we quickly learned that just because you're supposed to gain an hour doesn't mean you necessarily will. Babies don't appreciate the extra hour of sleep we're supposed to get and wake up an hour earlier (at what would be their usual time). We're quick learners especially when it comes to our sleep. Now that we're accustomed to the girls sleeping 10-11 hours a night we aren't willing to give up much of our uninterrupted sleep time. So, to try and prepare the girls for the time change we spent the end of last week and this weekend pushing their schedule back by an hour. We actually thought the time change was this weekend instead of next weekend so now we have to keep it up for a week. We're hoping by doing this they will more easily adapt on Sunday night and not be up at some un-godly time of the morning. I'll let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Happy Halloween!

We've had such a fun weekend already and are super excited for tonight's festivities. Friday night was Trunk or Treat at our church and the girls were brave enough to walk around and put candy in their bags. They had a lot of fun with their cousins, grandmas, aunts and uncles. Yesterday I took the girls to the park so they could run, climb and go down the slide. They had a blast and got so much energy from all that playing and excitement that they completely skipped afternoon naps, had a great rest of the evening and made it fuss-free until their normal bedtime. We'll see what they think of trick or treating at strangers' houses tonight. Should be fun!

Pumpkin Patch Photos!

We just got the photos Catherine  took for us a couple weeks back at the pumpkin patch. Oh.my.goodness! Here is the slideshow she put together. There are so many that made us laugh or ooooh and aaaah. We just love how Catherine is able to capture their personalities in these pictures. We're not really much for the studio/posed shots since it's hard enough to get them to sit down together, let alone smile or act happy. Catherine's style suits us and she does such an amazing job, how could we not be thrilled? Be sure to check back for a special treat Wednesday morning. And if you ever need family, maternity, or baby photos be sure to contact Catherine . You won't regret it, I promise.

What it all means

The girls are really learning what words mean now. The first big discovery was their ability to tell us when they have poop in their diapers. Lucy is especially diligent about walking up pointing at her bottom and saying poop. I think she fails to realize that we always know when she has pooped not only from the odor that permeates the entire house within seconds, but even if she tries to hide while completing her business, the grunting and straining is also hard to ignore. We're just glad we've gotten to the point where they realize what is happening and can tell us. This is step one towards potty training. We're not rushing that though. They also know the word hot. We have this heater that warms our giant living/dining room and the girls know not to touch it because it's hot (it's not really). They also know not to touch the oven because that's hot. I guess they've seen me use the potholders enough on things in the oven to know these also associate with h...

Here's a teaser for you...

Growing Like Weeds

My mom and I took the girls for their  18 19 mos. check-up yesterday. As usual it was a pretty quick and easy visit. The girls were well-behaved even though it was naptime when we arrived. They weren't big fans of the scale this time so we settled on them both being right around 21 pounds, give or take a few ounces. The Dr. showed me that they are exactly where they should be for weight and height to keep on track with their growth curve. The girls got the usual ears, eyes, throat, heart, lungs and hips check out before they each got their flu, chicken pox and one other one that I can't remember right now. They of course cried when they were getting the shots but they're such troopers and settle right down once someone's holding them. We went home, had some milk and took good long naps (including me). I can't believe the next check-up will be at 24 months!
